Our History

The beginning

It all started in 1986 on the second floor of a small office nestled in Steen Street, Rustenburg. Jan De Wet and Johnny De Villiers engaged in a partnership, which founded De Wet De Villiers Brokers.

Sadly, during September 1987 Johnny De Villiers passed away, leaving a void that André Schelhase had to fill when he joined the Company in 1987, followed by Callie Schlotfeldt a year later in 1988.

It was during this time that Rustenburg rapidly expanded due to the development of mines in the area. The purpose then, as it still stands today, was to deliver short-term insurance services and solutions to individuals and companies that preferred and appreciated a more personal approach. De Wet De Villiers Brokers spent the next 30 years forging strong networks and collaborations with insurers, suppliers and repairers.

Growth

As Rustenburg grew, so did the Brokerage. Due to the expanding client base and evolving industry, De Wet De Villiers Brokers extended its product offering, expertise and staff complement. The Company eventually outgrew its offices in Steen Street and moved to its current office building, which is located on the corner of Brink and Kock Street, in 2005. These premises offer sufficient and safe parking, comfortable and convenient offices, and easy access from all surrounding areas in Rustenburg.

A legacy

2016 was a disheartening year for De Wet De Villiers Brokers when founding father Jan De Wet passed away, leaving the rest of the team to continue building his legacy. His son, Thomas De Wet, returned from Austria after 16 years to join the management team, which now includes Johann and Thomas De Wet, André (Senior) and André (Junior) Schelhase, as well as Callie and Thomas Schlotfeldt. The management team is currently supported by 30 employees and continues to grow.
